Moses

The protagonist of today’s strips is perhaps one of the most famous residents of the McKenzie Farm.

He is often mistaken for a big white bear – which he does not take kindly to – although he is actually an Old English Sheepdog, or Bobtail, with a pronounced penchant for defending his territory and for using his baton, or shotgun, or whatever’s handy. After all, it is his job to guard the farm.

During the day he carries out numerous tasks, but what brings him most pleasure, and occasionally most pain, is his role as nocturnal caretaker. He wanders the darkened fields looking for troublemakers, but really he has one goal, and one goal only: to thwart Albert’s nightly incursions into the chicken coop.

As you can see above, their constant confrontations are played out on an intellectual level as well as a physical one. Deep down Moses knows that Albert’s forays into the hen house are sentimental in nature, and this is precisely what he cannot tolerate. Moses justifies these feelings by telling himself that it is his duty to guard the morality of the farm animals, but in reality, he is jealous of what Albert and Martha have as it is something he fears he will never experience. We feel you, Moses.

But only a few people know about this ‘softer’ side of his. To the world, he is drastic and decisive, with little inclination towards explanations, and he remains always watchful beneath the impenetrable bangs that cover his eyes. He is skilled with a baseball bat, unbeatable in hand-to-hand combat, and a tough customer for whoever crosses his path. And that’s how he likes it.

Keep tuning in for more strips every Tuesday and Friday!

Next Tuesday, Ludwig the Horse.

Sappiamo come ti senti caro Mosè.
